1. Absorbents: These are dry powders that absorb grease from fabric. Some of the substances used as dry cleaning powders are fuller’s earth, chalk powder, talcum powder, bran, salt, and breadcrumbs. French chalk and powdered sulphur are especially used as absorbents for grease.
2. Solvents: Certain liquids such as petrol, benzene, kerosene, carbon tetrachloride, and ether dissolve grease from the fabric and release dirt.
