  1. After Herbert dies, Mrs. White remembers that they have used only one of their three wishes. Grief-stricken, she thinks of using another wish to bring her son back to life.
  2. Yes. Mr. White makes the second wish, and Herbert returns apparently as the mutilated body of the son who died in the accident. As Herbert knocks at the door, Mr. White uses the final wish to make him dead and at peace. The knocking stops, and when Mrs. White opens the door, nobody is there.
