Origin Formed in the Precambrian era (oldest landmass). Formed during the Tertiary period (young fold mountains).
Nature of Rocks Composed mainly of igneous and metamorphic rocks. Composed of sedimentary rocks (fold mountains).
Structure Stable, rigid, and resistant to earthquakes. Unstable, young mountains prone to earthquakes and landslides.
Topography The Peninsular Plateau has a flat and stable surface with rounded hills. The Himalayas have rugged terrain with sharp peaks and deep valleys.
Seismic Activity It experiences very little or no seismic activity. It is prone to earthquakes and landslides due to tectonic activity.
Altitude The average height of the Peninsular Plateau is 600–900 meters. The Himalayas have some of the highest peaks, averaging above 6,000 meters.
