The retreating monsoon brings clear, cloudless skies, high daytime temperatures and high humidity, producing oppressive “October heat”. Nights and temperatures begin to fall in November. Most areas become dry, but surrounding warm seas foster low pressure and occasional Bay of Bengal tropical cyclones that deliver heavy coastal rainfall and damage, especially along the Coromandel coast and Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
