1. The scorer records a running total of points by noting all field goals and successful free throws.
2. They must inform the officials when a team requests a time-out and notify the coach through an official when the team has used up all time-outs for a half or extra period.
3. The scorer shows the number of fouls each player has by raising a marker that displays that player’s foul count in clear view of both coaches.
4. They place the team foul marker on the scorer’s table next to the team’s bench once that team reaches the foul penalty (after their fourth team foul in a period) when the ball next becomes live.
5. The scorer only sounds their signal when the ball is dead and before it becomes live again. This signal doesn’t stop the game or the clock or make the ball dead.
