Girls' bodies undergo the following changes during puberty:
- A sudden increase in height.
- The pelvic region opens, the hips broaden, and the breasts grow in size. Mammary glands grow inside the breasts.
- The muscles in the body expand to create an hour-glass appearance.
- Girls develop a high, beautiful voice.
- During puberty, sweat and sebaceous glands become more active, particularly on the face. This causes acne and pimples on the face.
- The ovaries expand, and the maturation and release of eggs begin. This results in the commencement of the menstrual cycle and the the development of sexual organs.
- Growth of pubic and armpit hair.
Boys' bodies go through the following changes during puberty:
- A sudden increase in height.
- The shoulders broaden and the chest expands.
- Boys have larger muscles than girls.
- The voice box, also known as the larynx, begins to expand and protrudes from the throat as Adam's apple. Boys develop deep voices.
- Sweat and sebaceous glands become more active.
- Male sex organs such as the testes and penis reach full development.
- Growth of pubic and armpit hair. Along with this, facial hair (beard and moustache) grows.
