1. In Figure a., settlements are distributed on both sides of the river in a scattered pattern. Therefore, it represents a dispersed settlement. The population density in such settlements is generally sparse.
2. In Figure b., settlements are grouped closely together. Such settlements are called nucleated settlements. These settlements usually have a high population density, i.e., a dense population.
