उत्तर

I worked quite hard to supply the woven cloth on time, but I received far less payment than the contractor had agreed upon. Since other weavers also received less remuneration, in the afternoon of 4th June,

I went to the contractor’s house with my partner and other weavers to negotiate higher weaving wages.

Our demands were scornfully rejected, and we were even threatened with losing future work if we did not labour at the same rate as we were paid. Some of my fellow weavers became enraged and broke the window panes of the contractor’s house, barging inside and damaging his furniture and crockery.

Some weavers also broke into his store of woven cloth and destroyed it all. Seeing this, the contractor fled the house with his family to a nearby village, but he was unable to find safety there either. The next day, the contractor returned with army forces, who opened fire on our weavers, killing eleven of them. A bullet struck my leg, and I am currently nursing my wounds.
