उत्तर

  1. A crystalline solid can be converted into an amorphous solid by rapid cooling or quenching of its molten form.
  2. When a crystalline solid is melted and then cooled rapidly, the atoms or molecules do not get sufficient time to arrange themselves into a regular, repeating pattern.
  3. As a result, the substance solidifies in a disordered or irregular structure, which is characteristic of amorphous solids.
  4. For example, when molten silica (SiO2) is cooled rapidly, it forms glass, which is an amorphous solid.
  5. Similarly, metallic glasses are formed by rapidly cooling molten alloys.
