Aim— To test whether a given rod is a magnet or not.
Apparatus —
- rod to be tested
- a bar magnet
- a stand
- a thread
Procedure —
- Suspend the rod to be tested with a thread on the stand.
- Bring the bar magnet near the rod with its north pole towards the rod’s end.
- Observe.
Inference — In every case, the magnet comes to rest in a north- south direction which shows its directive property.
Observation and Inference —
