AIDS is transmitted through blood transfusions, sharing of hypodermic needles by addicts, sexual contact (both male homosexual and multiple heterosexual intercourse), and from an infected mother to her child before, during, or shortly after birth, including through breastfeeding. It is not spread by touch, saliva, or casual contact.
