उत्तर
The French under Napoleon conquered territories of Switzerland, Dutch Republic, Italy and Germany. In these areas, the Napoleonic Code was incorporated whereby certain reforms were undertaken. Earlier, the people were happy with the introduction of reforms like equality before the law and abolition of the feudal system. However, this enthusiasm later turned into hostility as it became clear that the new administrative system did not go hand in hand with political freedom. Certain reforms like introduction of transport and communication led to increased taxation. Also, censorship and forced recruitment into the army was being practised. Thus, these reforms got mixed reactions from the people living in those areas.
