Emulsions are prepared by vigorously mixing two immiscible liquids using a high-speed mixer or ultrasonic vibrator, a process called emulsification. An emulsifying agent (emulsifier) like soap or detergent is added to stabilize the emulsion by forming a protective film around the dispersed droplets, preventing them from coalescing. Without an emulsifier, the emulsion separates into layers.
