उत्तर

  1. Very fertile and rich in minerals (potash, lime, iron, magnesia, alumina) which supply essential nutrients to crops.
  2. Light and porous texture easily tilled, so land preparation and root growth are easier.
  3. Wide distribution in river valleys and deltas forms the largest and most important agricultural belt, supporting large-scale farming.
  4. Supports a wide variety of crops (both Kharif and Rabi) e.g., rice, wheat, sugarcane, cotton, jute, oilseeds, and pulses.
  5. Newer alluvium (khadar) is replenished each year by river floods, so fertility is regularly renewed.
  6. Varies in texture from sandy loam to clay across the plain, so different parts suit different crops (crop flexibility).
  7. Can be made productive in drier/alkaline areas with irrigation and treatment, increasing usable agricultural land.
