Here are two examples of food adulteration:
- Adding water to milk increases its volume, diluting it and lowering its nutritional content. In rare cases, toxic chemicals such as detergents or urea may be added to milk to mimic the appearance and consistency of real milk.
- To increase the yellow color, turmeric powder is mixed with a hazardous chemical called lead chromate. This not only diminishes the spice’s purity and quality but also puts consumers’ health at risk.
