• In terms of distribution, the location of fertilizer plants is closely tied to the availability of raw materials, often linked with petrochemical resources.
• Approximately 70% of nitrogenous fertilizer plants use naphtha, which is why many fertilizer plants are situated near oil refineries.
• Phosphatic fertilizer plants depend on mineral phosphate found mainly in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, while sulfur, another key mineral, is available in Tamil Nadu.
• The development of gas pipelines, such as the HBJ Gas pipeline, has facilitated the spread of fertilizer plants in regions like Vijaypur, Jagdishpur, Aonla, Gadipan, Babrala, and Shahajahanpur.
• Key fertilizer-producing states include Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Kerala, which collectively produce about half of India’s fertilizers. 
• Other contributors include Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Bihar, Maharashtra, Assam, West Bengal, Goa, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka.
