Primary waves (P-waves) are the first earthquake waves to be recorded on a seismogram because they are the fastest seismic waves. These waves travel through the Earth’s interior by compressing and expanding the material they pass through, similar to sound waves in air. Due to their high speed, P-waves are the first to reach the seismograph station after an earthquake occurs. Their ability to travel through both solid and liquid materials allows them to move quickly and be detected first, making them the first to be recorded.
