Saint Eknath’s Bharud – “Vinchu Chavla”
Lyrics (excerpt):
| विंचू चावला, वृश्चिक चावला काम-क्रोध विंचू चावला। |
Meaning:
In this Bharud, the scorpion symbolises negative qualities such as anger, greed, and desires. Saint Eknath teaches that these weaknesses cause suffering and should be overcome through good conduct and devotion.
Enactment in School Cultural Programme:
I participated in a cultural programme and enacted Saint Eknath’s Bharud “Vinchu Chavla.” I played the role of a villager who is troubled by the symbolic scorpion of anger and greed. Through songs, dialogue, and traditional costumes, we conveyed the moral message of the Bharud. The audience appreciated the performance and understood the importance of controlling negative emotions and following the path of righteousness.
This activity helped me understand the cultural and social significance of Bharuds composed by Saint Eknath.
