The midpoint M of the segment joining P(x1, y1) and Q(x2, y2) is,

M = `((x_1 + x_2)/2, (y_1 + y_2)/2)`

Identify coordinates:

Here,

 P = (12, 5) so x1 = 12, y1 = 5;

Q = (2, 7) so x2 = 2, y2 = 7

Substitute and compute:

x-coordinate = `(x_1 + x_2) / 2`

= `(12 + 2) / 2`

= `14 / 2`

∴ x-coordinate = 7

y-coordinate = `(y_1 + y_2) / 2`

= `(5 + 7) / 2`

= `12 / 2`

∴ y-coordinate = 6

Hence, the coordinates of the mid-point of the line segment joining the points are (7, 6).
