In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the Election Commission recorded 61,67,482 registered Persons with Disabilities (PwD) electors out of about 91.2 crore electors. Thus, PwD electors formed approximately 0.68% of the total electorate.
Measures to increase their participation:
Polling stations should be made barrier-free, with ramps, wheelchairs, transport facilities, volunteers and suitable assistance for visually and hearing-impaired voters.
Special registration and awareness drives can also encourage greater participation.
The Election Commission used several such accessibility measures during the 2019 election.
