The Junagad Nawab desired to unite with Pakistan. The residents of Junagad, however, strongly disagreed with this choice and desired to join India. In February 1948, a vote was held following the Nawab’s escape to Pakistan. India’s merger resulted from the majority vote in favour of the country.
