Both the server and receiver must keep part of both feet in contact with the court surface, staying still from the start of the serve until it is delivered. Their feet must remain on the ground until the server strikes the shuttle. Only part of each foot needs to touch the floor, allowing players to shift weight or turn their body. However, dragging a foot along the floor is not allowed.
