उत्तर
- A repeater is a hardware device mainly used in Ethernet networks to increase the distance of transmission.
- It regenerates and boosts the signal so that it can travel from one Ethernet segment to another. The figure shows a network setup using repeaters.

- In a building, a vertical backbone cable is used, and repeaters connect Ethernet segments on each floor to this backbone.
- For reliable communication, there should not be more than two repeaters between any two Ethernet workstations.
- The major drawback of a repeater is that it amplifies noise along with the signal.
