2. Filtering at every level of authority could distort it.
3. Because they are afraid of power, subordinates are hesitant to speak openly with superiors.
4. Vertical communication may not be seamless because of the significant difference in status between the top executive and the lowest-level executive.
5. A superior might not pay attention to what their subordinates have to say. Upward communication is obstructed when patient and empathetic listening is lacking.
