  1. Environmental Stresses: Environmental stresses such as earthquakes, tsunamis, super cyclones, and floods occur suddenly and have a strong and immediate impact. These are known as natural disasters. Such events deeply affect the physical and mental well-being of many people and often take a long time to recover from. For instance, the super cyclone in Orissa in 1999 and the tsunami that struck Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and India are examples of such disasters. Another type of environmental stress includes issues like pollution, excessive noise, and overcrowding, which have a less intense but still noticeable effect on people’s daily lives.
  2. Psychological stress: Psychological stresses are deeply personal and specific to the individual experiencing them. They are considered internal sources of stress, arising from within the person, such as feelings of frustration, inner conflict, emotional tension, and mental pressure.
  3. Social Stress: When stress arises from social events or situations, it is referred to as social stress. Examples include experiencing a serious illness or the death of a family member, divorce, separation, conflicts with a close friend, single motherhood, or dealing with a troublesome neighbor. Even if the problems are minor, like frequent daily arguments, they can still lead to stress, especially when they occur repeatedly and are unavoidable.
