Actions speak louder than words

This is an old and wise saying. A person's actions speak louder than their words, according to the saying. Even if we can't always persuade others with just words, we can persuade them by our actions. Without action, words are nothing. We must thus concentrate on doing action. Especially when working with youngsters, this is crucial. Instead of listening to what their parents say, children naturally imitate their behaviour.

When someone speaks, their words are only audible to the ears; yet, when they act, their actions are visible to the eyes. These have a greater effect on the observer than words do. "You must be the change you wish to see in the world," Mahatma Gandhi once stated.

Unless he changes himself, a lazy father cannot expect his lazy children to get better just by urging them to. He must transform his own conduct in order to become an example. Hence, by changing our own behaviour, we can encourage others to follow suit and contribute to a constructive transformation of society.
