उत्तर

  1. Food adulteration is the intentional addition of inferior or unauthorised substances to food, or the removal of an important constituent. It reduces food quality and may make food unsafe.
  2. Examples include metanil yellow added to arhar dal, papaya seeds mixed with peppercorns, and unauthorised colouring or polishing used to make food look more attractive. Adding a cheaper substance or removing a valuable component is also adulteration.
  3. Adulterated food may cause vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal cramps and fatigue. Some harmful substances can also damage body systems or contribute to serious long-term illness.
  4. Consumers should check labels and quality marks, avoid suspicious products, keep purchase receipts and report suspected adulteration to the appropriate food-safety authorities.
