Our Pair’s List of Disliked Childhood Activities

My partner and I compared notes and realised we shared many of the same struggles growing up. Here is our list of activities we absolutely hated doing as kids:

  1. Waking up early on cold winter mornings for school.
  2. Practicing cursive handwriting sheets over and over.
  3. Doing daily mathematics drills and memorising multiplication tables.
  4. Packing the school bag according to the timetable every single night.

Sharing the Experience with the Class

Good morning everyone,

Looking at our list, the one activity that I absolutely detested as a child was packing my school bag every single night according to the timetable. It felt like a boring, repetitive chore, and I often complained to my parents about why I couldn’t just keep all my books in my bag all the time.

But looking back, I realise that this specific activity has immensely helped me solve problems today.

That simple, annoying habit of packing my bag taught me organisation and foresight. Today, we face a massive syllabus, project deadlines, and exam schedules. Because I was forced to look at my timetable every night as a kid, I naturally learned how to plan my day ahead. It stopped me from being disorganised. When I face a heavy study load now, I don’t panic; I break it down, organise my materials, and plan my schedule just like I used to plan my school bag.

It taught me that solving big problems in life often requires daily discipline and preparation the night before. It turns out that boring childhood chores were actually training for my future!
