उत्तर
The Himalayas are not confined to a single east-west range but extend into several off-shoots or branches that extend northwest and northeast from the main ranges.
Two Main Off-shoots of the Himalayas:
- North-Western Off-shoots: These off-shoots comprise the mountain ranges located beyond the Indus river. The main ranges in this region include the Hazara, Sulaiman, Bugti, Kirthar, and Mekran ranges.
- The North-East Off-shoots: This portion of the Himalayas extends beyond the Tsangpo-Brahmaputra gorge. It comprises the Indo-Myanmar hills, the Arakan Yoma, and the Tenasserim ranges, which are considered extensions of the Himalayas. Most of these ranges lie outside India, but the Indian part includes the Patkai Bum (in the Naga Hills), the Manipur Hills, and the Mizo Hills, arranged from north to south.
