1. According to functional theory, education serves society’s different needs, which is the best way to explain the four purposes of education. Therefore, the first purpose of schooling is to help people get along with each other. Learning gives kids the rules, morals, and skills they need to live in society.
2. As a second purpose, schooling helps young people become part of society by introducing them to shared beliefs and values, which ultimately lead to their social integration.
3. Social placement is the third purpose of schooling. The teacher quickly decides whether a child is brilliant, not so smart, hardworking, or in a different group. Teachers assist students based on where they are placed and teach each child based on their specific needs.
4. Lastly, education encourages social and cultural change by making scientists, artists, and workers who work for the good of society.
