Basis of Difference Acid rain Greenhouse gases
Meaning Acid rain is rainwater made acidic by pollutants that dissolve in it. Greenhouse gases are atmospheric gases that absorb and trap heat.
Main cause Sulphur dioxide and oxides of nitrogen react with water in the atmosphere to form acids. Gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide trap heat in the atmosphere.
Nature Acid rain is a form of precipitation and an effect of air pollution. Greenhouse gases are pollutants in the atmosphere that contribute to the greenhouse effect.
Main effect It can damage plants, aquatic life, soil, buildings and human health. Their increased concentration can raise Earth’s temperature and contribute to climate change.
