1. A router is a device that connects two or more networks and forwards data packets between them. A gateway is a device that connects networks using different protocols and acts as an entry and exit point.
2. It works mainly at the Network Layer (Layer 3) of the OSI model. It can work at different layers of the OSI model, depending on its function.
3. It is used to connect similar types of networks. It is used to connect different types of networks.
4. Example: Connecting a LAN to another LAN. Example: Connecting a LAN to the Internet.
