Sr. No. Pelagic fish Demersal fish
1. These are generally small in size and swim near the surface. These fish live at the bottom of shallow seas.
2. They are found in large shoals and may be caught close to the shore or far out at sea. They prefer cooler waters and thus, are most frequently found at depths of about 40 metres where sunlight can easily penetrate.
3. Mackerel, herring, etc. are pelagic fish. Cod, halibut, etc. are demersal fish.
