उत्तर

Feature Conservative Replication Dispersive Replication
Main Concept The entire original DNA double helix remains intact (is “conserved”), and an entirely new double helix is synthesised from scratch. The original DNA molecule is broken into fragments, and each fragment is replicated.
Daughter DNA Composition After one round of replication, one daughter molecule is 100% old DNA, and the other is 100% new DNA. Every daughter DNA molecule consists of a patchwork mix of old and new DNA segments along both strands.
Unwinding It was argued that the parental DNA does not split open or unwind at all in this model. The parental strands break apart and reassemble with new material.
Biological Reality This model is hypothetical and has never been observed in living cells. This model is also hypothetical and was disproven by experiments.
Meselson-Stahl Evidence Disproven after Generation 1, as it would have produced two separate bands (heavy and light) instead of the intermediate hybrid band actually seen. Disproven after Generation 2, as it would have continued to produce only a single, progressively lighter band instead of the two distinct bands (hybrid and light) observed.
