उत्तर

Aspect Chromosomal Mutation Gene Mutation
Definition Structural changes in chromosomes which appear phenotypically; involve changes in number or sequence of genes on chromosomes but not the chromosome number itself. Changes or slips in replication of genes altering gene duplication; affects nucleotide sequence at a single gene (point mutation).
Level of change Affects a segment or structure of a chromosome (can involve many genes). Affects a single gene at the molecular level (usually during DNA replication).
Types/Examples Deletion, duplication, translocation, inversion. Deletion, insertion, substitution (transition or transversion) of bases in the gene.
Phenotypic effect Can lead to visible phenotypic changes due to gene arrangement or dosage changes. May or may not cause phenotypic change; some gene mutations cause diseases (e.g., sickle cell anemia).
Impact on chromosome number Does not usually involve change in chromosome number (structural changes). Does not affect chromosome structure or number, only gene sequence.
Scale of effect Large scale - affects sequences involving multiple genes or gene arrangements. Small scale - affects the nucleotide sequence of a single gene.
