Aspect Carcinomas Sarcomas
1. Tissue of origin Arise from epithelial tissues (lining of body organs, glands, and skin). Arise from connective or supportive tissues (bone, cartilage, muscles, fat, or blood vessels).
2. Common sites Skin, lungs, breast, stomach, colon, prostate. Bones, muscles, tendons, cartilage, and blood vessels.
3. Rate of occurrence More common type of cancer in humans. Less common than carcinomas.
4. Rate of growth Usually slower-growing and spread through lymphatic system. Often faster-growing and spread through the bloodstream.
5. Example Lung carcinoma, breast carcinoma, skin carcinoma. Osteosarcoma (bone), liposarcoma (fat), rhabdomyosarcoma (muscle).
