उत्तर

Addition polymers: These form by chain‑growth (addition) polymerisation, where unsaturated monomers (with C = C) add repeatedly to a growing chain without loss of atoms; molecular weight rises quickly, and no small molecule is produced.

Example: polythene from ethene.

Condensation polymers: These form by step‑growth (condensation) polymerisation, where bifunctional monomers react through their functional groups to make bonds while a small molecule (often water or HCl) is eliminated; long chains build up by joining oligomers.

Example: nylon‑6,6 formed from adipic acid and hexamethylenediamine with the elimination of water.
