Describe various relay races.

The common relay races are the 4×100 m and 4×400 m:

• In the 4×100 m, four runners each cover 100 m and the team runs the entire race in the same lane.
• In the 4×400 m, four runners each cover 400 m. Runners remain in their lanes until the runner of the second leg passes the first bend; they can then move towards the innermost part of the track.
• In both races, the baton must be exchanged within the exchange zone.
