India has the second largest reserves of manganese ore in the world. The main producing states are:
- Madhya Pradesh: Produces about 27% of India’s manganese. Major deposits in Balaghat and Chhindwara districts.
- Maharashtra: Contributes about 25%. Found mainly in Nagpur and Bhandara districts; also high-grade ore in Ratnagiri.
- Odisha: About 24% of production. Deposits in Sundargarh, Kendujhar, Kalahandi, Koraput, Bolangir, Sambalpur.
- Karnataka: Produces about 11%. Deposits in Bellary, Chitradurga, Shimoga, North Kanara, Dharwar, Chikmaglur, Bijapur.
- Andhra Pradesh: Nearly 10% of production. Found in Srikakulam, Vishakhapatnam, Cuddapah, Vijayanagaram, Guntur.
- Others (small producers): Jharkhand (Singhbhum, Dhanbad), Rajasthan (Banswara), Gujarat (Panchmahal), Goa.
