उत्तर
A compound is a pure substance made up of two or more different elements [atoms] combined chemically in a fixed proportion.
Since one carbon atom and two oxygen atoms combine to generate one carbon dioxide molecule (CO2), we refer to the combination of carbon and oxygen as occurring in a fixed ratio of 1 : 2 to form carbon dioxide.
