Working note:
1. Profit Sharing Ratio
Profits are allocated as: Brown = `1/2 (3/6), "Smith" = 1/3 (2/6), "and Reserve" = 1/6`
Therefore, the mutual profit-sharing ratio between Brown and Smith is 3 : 2, making Smith's share `2/5`.
2. Smith's Share of Reserve
Total Reserve = 3,000
Smith's Share = `3,000 xx 2/5 = 1,200`
Average Profit = `(4,200 + 3,900 + 4,500)/3 = 4,200`
Smith's Share = `4,200 xx 4/12 xx 2/5 = 560`
Total Profit of 3 years = 4,200 + 3,900 + 4,500 = 12,600
Smith's Share = `12,600 xx 2/5 = 5,040`
