Briefly explain the tenure of a Municipal Corporation.

Every Municipal Corporation holds a tenure of five years, starting from the date of its first official meeting. Once this term ends, elections must be conducted, and a new Corporation must be formed within six months of dissolution.

If a Municipal Corporation is dissolved before completing its full term, the newly formed body will only serve for the remaining duration of the original term. However, if the remaining term is less than six months, no fresh elections are required for that short period.

In cases where the government believes that the Municipal Corporation is failing in its duties or misusing its powers, it has the right to dissolve it before the term ends. But before taking such action, the Corporation must be given a fair chance to respond.

After any such dissolution, it is compulsory to reconstitute the Corporation within six months.
