1. Physical Distance: Oral communication may not be feasible when two people are physically separated by a great distance. In certain situations, a mechanical device like a telephone could not be available. 
2. Lack of Record: Unless it is recorded and transcribed, oral communication does not create a lasting record for later use. therefore is not appropriate for situations where the message needs to be documented, such as service contracts, purchase orders, policy statements, etc., and therefore lacks legal validity. 
3. Misunderstanding: Poor voice expression and noise make oral communications more prone to misunderstandings. The audience might not be paying attention, or the speaker might not be able to express himself well. This is perhaps more accurate when there is animosity between the two people. 
4. Poor Retention: Oral communications cannot be sustained for very long due to the limitations of human memory. As a result, written directives and instructions are required. 
5. Lengthy Messages: Long messages are not appropriate for spoken communication. Long explanations increase the likelihood that some crucial details may be overlooked. 
6. Lack of Responsibility: No voice messages are recorded. As a result, it becomes challenging to hold people accountable for errors, inaccuracies, and lies made orally.
