Based on the reason of metamorphism, there are two main types of metamorphism: dynamic metamorphism (due to high pressure) and thermal metamorphism (due to high temperature). Thermal metamorphism further divides into contact metamorphism (rocks changed by contact with magma/lava) and regional metamorphism (rocks changed by high pressure and/or temperature inside the earth).
