Mahmud Gawan was a Persian-origin statesman and military commander who served as wazir of the Bahmani Sultanate (1466–1481). He reformed administration by dividing provinces into tarafs, fixed land revenue, promoted education (founding Bidar Madrasa with 3,000 books), patronised arts, but was executed due to nobles’ jealousy, hastening Bahmani decline and fragmentation.
