उत्तर

Courtship in the olden days was nothing like what it is now. Proposal had to be sent very formally through the parents and their consent was needed to get married. In the play, we see that Lomov wants to marry Natalia but instead of talking to her directly, he calls her father to ask for her hand in marriage. He arrives dressed in his best clothes and presents himself in the best possible way so that Chubukov may not refuse the proposal. Even when he talks to Natalia, he refrains from saying anything personal.
Relationships need a lot of fuel to keep them strong and healthy. Trust and understanding between both the people is essential to make it successful.
