Let Alex spend ₹ x on food items : 

∴ 20 : x = 12 : 900 

∴ `20/"x" = 12/900`

`therefore "x"/20 = 900/12`

`therefore "x" = (900 xx 20)/12`

∴ x = 1500

∴  Alex's expenditure on food i~ems during June 2010 is~ 1500.
