उत्तर
Impacts of acid rain on the environment are as follows:
- Damage to Aquatic Ecosystems: Acid rain leads to acidification of lakes, rivers, and streams, disrupting the delicate balance of aquatic ecosystems. Lower pH levels can harm fish and other aquatic organisms, reducing biodiversity. Shellfish and other species struggle to survive in very acidic circumstances.
- Harm to Forests and Soil: Acid rain damages soil nutrients such as calcium and magnesium, causing tree damage. The release of aluminium from the soil can be harmful to plant roots. Forests at higher elevations are more vulnerable to acidic clouds and mists.
- Harm to Historical Monuments: Acid rain can destroy monuments and buildings. The Taj Mahal has recently suffered from harmful effects.
