Dear Mom,

I know you will not be pleased when you read this letter. I am sorry to inform you that I will not be able to come home for Diwali this year. My first term exams got postponed due to elections and are now scheduled to be held right after Diwali. Believe me when I say that I am not happy to stay away from you during this festive season but I have no other choice. I promise you that I will come home next year for Diwali. In the mean time, please do not be disheartened. I love you and dad a lot and will keep you in my prayers. I hope to see you soon. Give my love and best wishes to all our relatives and friends.
