Review of the film 'A Wednesday'
This 2008 thriller recounts the events that occur between 2 and 6 p.m. on a Wednesday when a guy convinces the police commissioner that he has planted bombs in key locations throughout Mumbai and is holding the city hostage. Only once specific terrorists serving sentences in Mumbai jails are released and brought to a designated destination will the locations be made public.
Only the background score is included; there are no songs or dances. The police commissioner's office, an airport runway, and the roof of an incomplete building in Mumbai serve as the three primary locations for the movie.
The main characters are Jimmy Shergill and Aamir Bashir as police officers, Anupam Kher as the police commissioner, and Naseeruddin Shah as the mysterious bomber. Each character has done a good job in his role. With his role, Naseeruddin Shah steals the show. His delivery of dialogue is simply amazing. The character is given importance by Anupam Kher, who has done it exceptionally well.
After Mumbai's repeated train bombings, hundreds of innocent people died. "A Wednesday" highlights the common man's powerlessness and rage in addition to raising concerns about the injustice done to him.
A great movie with outstanding performers. Not to be missed.
